Week 4 - Photosharing

Page history last edited by LibeRaCe 14 years, 10 months ago

Welcome to Week 4 of your quest!

This week you will investigate Photosharing. This means the publishing or tranferring of your digital images to an online service, which then lets you organise and share your photos with whom ever you choose. These photosharing sites have developed from the early online services that let you order prints online. They provide a centralised access point to your photos, often with some basic editing options. Many provide options to share pictures by download, email, URL and blog inserts.

What is Flickr?

Flickr: A free site that allows you to upload, organize, comment on and share photographs (and now short video clips) with other site members. A small fee changes your account to a professional one, where photo-editing tools are available. Photobucket is a similar service. You will need to be able to 'Upload' photos - that means saving pictures/content from your PC,  pendrive or phone to a blog/wiki/webpage/bookmarking site. You will be using 'Tags' and these services are also an example of both 'Social Bookmarking' and 'Social Networking'.

www.flickr.com

History: Launched 2004, one of the earliest web2.0 apps, bought by Yahoo in 2005, videos added in 2008.

Example of: media sharing, social bookmarking, networking. Free for a limited storage account. Good for: feedback, joining groups, organising photos and sharing.

Bad for: editing available for fee only.
